Famous Cities of the World: Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is too big to be negotiated on foot, but there is an efficient metro system, including many elevated lines, and two main areas that, between them, encapsulate the charm of a contradictory city. One is the old colonial district, centered on Merdeka Square, which will bring out the Union Jack-waver in the most jaded British visitor. Kuala Lumpur is also a shoppers' haven. The Central Market is a huge centre with restaurants and a good place to shop for curios and handicraft items. Kuala Lumpur is characterized by Malay and Chinese culture, with a good serving of Indian culture on the side. While Islam is the state religion, Malaysia is tolerant of other faiths, and along with mosques, you can see many temples and churches in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur is a modern Asian city gleaming with skyscrapers and colourful authentic culture. Escape the buzzing centre and discover the manicured Lake Gardens, a haven of green within soaring buildings, or retreat to the National Art Gallery for a closer look at Malaysian art at its best. Kuala Lumpur is a modern, bustling city with gleaming skyscrapers dominated by the Petronas Twin Towers whilst down below, the streets are alive with shops and restaurants, retaining much of the original character and local colour. This exciting metropolis offers all you could wish for in a city destination. Kuala Lumpur is an Asian tiger that roars: in almost 150 years, it has grown from nothing to a modern, bustling city. Take in its high-flying triumphs from the viewing deck of the world's tallest building, and then dive down to explore its more traditional culture in the back lanes of Chinatown.

Kuala Lumpur is a city caught in a metropolitan limbo. It aspires to be Singapore, but at times feels more like Bangkok. Kuala Lumpur is the heart of Malaysia’s political, commercial and social life. Here, vivid traces of history continue to influence and inspire a country set on becoming a fully industrialized nation by the year 2020. Kuala Lumpur is an amazing city and you can really tell there is British influence here as half the signs etc are written in English. Everyone has been really lovely and happy to help and food was very good!

Kuala Lumpur is the seat of the Parliament of Malaysia, making it the country's legislative capital. The city was once home to the executive and judicial branches of the federal government, but they have since moved to Putrajaya for the most part. Kuala Lumpur is situated midway along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, at the confluence of the Klang and Gombek rivers. Along Jalan Petaling and surrounding areas are markets, shops, food stalls, and the bustling life of the Chinese community. Kuala Lumpur is a city that thinks big. Any vestiges of its history are almost imperceptible among the forest of glass, steel and marble that now constitutes the city centre.

Kuala Lumpur is served by two airports. The main airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which serves all major airlines, connects the city to destinations around the world. Kuala Lumpur is the ideal locale for those who prefer their tropical rain forest greenery with a substantial helping of shopping. The world's tallest freestanding twin towers, which dominate the city's skyline, are a beacon to shoppers from all over the planet who seek to extend their pursuit of luxury items in some of the world's leading shopping centers, clustered around the Bukit Bintang Walk. Kuala Lumpur is a metropolis where mainly modern skyscrapers, luxurious hotels and in lesser extent British Colonial, Islamite and Moor monuments vary each other. From the famous Petronas Twin Tower (452 meter) and the KL Tower (421 meter) you have a splendid view over the city.
